Payment and parking systems depend on stable connectivity for authorisations, uptime monitoring, and remote maintenance. Connected IoT Limited provides industrial-grade 4G and 5G connectivity designed for dependable operation across distributed sites.
Payment and access systems must be secured and managed correctly. Typical capabilities include:
Terminals, kiosks and barriers connect to a local LAN or switch with PoE and local controllers. The LAN uplinks to an industrial cellular router with external antennas. The router enforces VLANs, QoS and firewall policies to separate payment, telemetry and management traffic, and it terminates persistent TLS/IPsec VPN tunnels to a central gateway or SD‑WAN controller.
Payment authorisations are forwarded from the terminal through the router to payment processors over the VPN. Telemetry and health metrics are forwarded to monitoring systems, while management access is handled on a separate plane using certificate‑based authentication.
Low and consistent latency is important for quick authorisations and predictable user experience. Session persistence, keepalives and rapid re‑authentication reduce the chance of dropped sessions during transient network events. During short outages, terminals and controllers should retry with exponential backoff and, where supported, buffer transactions locally for store‑and‑forward once connectivity returns. Recovery processes must include safe duplicate suppression and reconciliation to prevent double-charges or missed payments.
Fixed lines often involve longer lead times and can be subject to third‑party management or site constraints that limit operator control. Site Wi‑Fi may be shared or untrusted for payments, increasing the risk of interruptions. Cellular allows operators to deploy independently of site infrastructure and implement operator diversity with dual‑SIM or multi‑operator eSIMs for resilience. While fixed lines can offer lower latency and higher bandwidth in ideal conditions, modern 4G and 5G networks provide adequate latency consistency and throughput for payments and telemetry when designed with session persistence and local buffering.
